Satisfyer Review!!

A few weeks ago, I was on vacation visiting some friends. While there, I received an email from German-based company Satisfyer . I had never heard of them before, and they wanted to send me some of their toys to review. Obviously, I said yes. When I returned home two days later, my package was already there. I didn't even know it was possible to receive something from the other side of the globe that quickly, so I was impressed right off the bat. They sent me three of their models-- Satisfyer 2 , Satisfyer Pro 2 , and the  Satisfyer Pro Penguin . I've owned small toys before and enjoyed them. I gotta say, none of them really stick out in my mind. They've done the job they were there to do, but that is about it. These things though...wow. They are oral sex simulators--and they simulate it very well. The biggest issue with these is that you aren't going to have a long, slow personal-pleasure session. These things get the job done fast. Their YouTube channel has videos...

Why do you want to be a sex therapist?

Hey all!! I've decided to do an update for you. I hope you all enjoyed my interview with Josh. It was super entertaining and informative for me. Personally, I am monogamous, but I find the idea of non-monogamy fascinating. I do have another interview to post soon with a woman in a similar situation. She is married, yet both her and her husband have a couple of significant others outside of the marriage!! Her stories are pretty crazy, so make sure you stop by to check that out. Now, a lot of you haven't read this blog from the beginning and therefore may not know some stuff about me. I get asked a lot why I want to go into this field. The answer is because I suffered for several years to get answers and information about my own body, and I wish that things like that could be much more obtainable. I got my period when I was 11. I didn't know anything about it and I was too afraid to talk to my mom. I cried myself to sleep and thought something was wrong with me. Through...

Love Yourself

I thought long and hard about whether or not to post this. I like to advertise myself as an open book, but being overly personal (especially on the internet) does freak me out, a bit. But I've gotten such amazing, motivating feedback since yesterday that I've decided to try and share my 'story' or whatever I should call it. When I was younger, I was that kid that everyone made fun of for being so skinny. Lots of people told me to eat more, which I thought was crazy, because I ate so much. I just had a fast metabolism. I also had no shape. I hit puberty early, but it didn't hit me. I joked about my non-existent boobs all throughout high school, and it wasn't until I was around 21-22 that people started telling me my jokes didn't work anymore because I had a chest. My doctor put me on a special diet around the age of 13-14 due to my high cholesterol. I was limited to three 'treats' a week. After a few months of that, I was given the all-clear and w...

#NoBraDay for Breast Cancer Awareness

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is important because about 1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Besides lung cancer, breast cancer is the biggest cancer diagnosis and killer of women, though the numbers have gone down due to extensive research and advanced screenings. This is great news!! The pink campaign for breast cancer has definitely brought a TON of awareness and funding towards the disease. Like any charity or donation center, make sure you are doing your research before donating. Awareness and money is important in helping to cure women (and men!) afflicted with diseases and preventing them from getting sick in the first place. This is where I will mention that Planned Parenthood does offer screenings and mammograms for early detection, which is SO important. It's also important to remember to give yourself regular breast exams. Just check out your boobs from time to time to make sure they look and feel normal. Here...

I Stand with Planned Parenthood--PINK OUT!!

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”--Dr. Seuss

" The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge. "-Albert Einstein                                                            Now this is what I call a fantasy. A few weeks ago, I entered a contest on the website Literotica.  I wrote a short erotic story for a contest (Cheating Heart--read it here ). I read a bunch of stories too, and I heard from a lot of other authors and readers. As of current, my story has nearly 15,000 views. Then I realized something--the power of fantasy is great. There are even people who can bring themselves to orgasm just by thinking their way to it (mostly women). Dr. Ian Kerner , a sex and relationship counselor and author, says, "The...

Bite my lip and close my eyes...

Masturbation--the thing that a lot of people do and a lot of people lie about doing. But it's totally natural. Even young children do it (of course, not with the means of 'finishing,' they just start playing with themselves because it feels good). And it does feel good. It releases all the same hormones that are released during orgasm with a partner, and the best part is, you don't need someone with you to do it. You don't need anything to do it, except a hand. Of course, many people prefer other things such as sex toys, lube or lotions to get them going, but it's not always necessary. Some people may feel guilty for masturbating. They might think it's a 'sinful' thing to do, or that they're 'cheating' on their partner. Well, it's not cheating. If you believe it is, that's your loss, but touching yourself when you feel turned on is not on the same level as touching someone else or someone else touching you. And as far as religio...

"I used to have what could have been considered a high sex drive, but slowly it has gotten less and less active and now I basically have no sex drive. My boyfriend (who has an overactive sex drive himself) feels like I don't want him anymore because of this, but honestly I do it's just that I don't feel like having a lot of sex anymore. I feel like the birth control I'm on is making me feel like this, but I don't know if I want to switch what I'm on because it's been working for me other than this. What's some good ways of boosting my sex drive again?"

People have different sex drives. A 'low' one or a 'high' one is neither normal nor abnormal, unless it interferes with your relationships and/or life. It's about compromise. Make sure your boyfriend recognizes that just because you don't want sex every night, it really doesn't mean you don't want him. Some people just don't have the drive, it's as simple as that. There are many times where lack of sex has absolutely nothing to do with the feelings for the other person. But make sure that is not the case. If there is anything bothering you about him or your relationship, address it. If you don't, your sex drive will never increase (with him, at least). Now that that is out of the way, here are some things to try. One thing is to change the birth control. Different birth controls can give off different hormones and in different ways. May something that lets off a low-dose of hormones over the course of the month, such as an IUD, might help y...

Sex Drives.

As humans, we have some basic drives. One of these is a sex drive. It's a well-known 'fact' that men have higher sex drives than women. But is that true?? Turns out, yes. Men do tend to crave sex more, and not surprisingly, they will take it more casually, often, and without emotional attachment. A psychologist from Florida State University even conducted a study that showed that men get aroused more randomly throughout the day, whereas for women, a situation has to be just right for her to become turned-on. --About 66% of men say they masturbate (compared with 40% of women). This has gotta be wrong, I think that number is too low. --Men seem to have specific expectations for the things that turn them on, whereas women are more difficult to figure out (as usual). When showed pornographic videos to gauge arousal, straight men were aroused by straight porn, gay men by gay porn, lesbians by lesbian porn, but straight women seemed to be aroused by all of it!!! --Church...

Surrogate Sex Partners

This is less of an educational post and more of an explanation/opinion post. A friend of mine sent me a link to this article from FoxNews about surrogate sex partners. What is it? Well, basically, when a person is in therapy for sexual/intimacy problems, a secondary form of therapy could be to have a surrogate to 'teach' the patient how to become intimate with someone else and how to have sex in a healthy way. This means a woman can learn how to relax and have an orgasm, a man can try and help his erectile dysfunction, and someone who is socially inept can learn how to be physical with someone. It's not like these people go in and just have sex with someone. These surrogates are employed by the IPSA (International Professional Surrogates Association). It is a non-profit organization and it is $1,500 for the training. I'm assuming these people have background checks and STD testings. Therapists and surrogates work together to fully help the client. The therapist holds ...

Advice

"My boyfriend and I recently started having sex. The first time, there was some pain and bleeding, which I heard was normal for the first time. But then it happened again, which I don't think is normal. We haven't done anything since then (and yes, we do use protection) but I don't know if I want to do it again if its always going to hurt. :\ Help?" Pain and bleeding is absolutely normal the first time, and many girls do. It's very common to experience light spotting and discomfort the first few times of sex, or even for a couple days after. Some girls are lucky and there is no pain the first time, but the majority of girls feel discomfort. Since you bled, it's likely your hymen had still been intact beforehand. Some girls have a thick hymen, which might not break when using tampons and things like that, and sex might have finally done that for you. Other things to consider though, are factors in the pain. Was there proper lubrication? Plenty of wom...

How do I know if I orgasmed?

Men, you should be happy. Most of the time no man will ever have to wonder this question, yet tons of women ask it every day. So for all you women out there wondering if you did, here's some hints. And if you haven't, practice makes perfect. You need to keep trying. Because sex might feel good in general, but not much beats a good orgasm. If you have said, "I don't know if I've ever had an orgasm," then you probably haven't. It's not really the kind of thing that just happens when you weren't paying attention. Before orgasm, your body starts tensing up. It will feel like every part of you is tightening. The biggest thing you need to do at this moment is let go. It may be hard to do that, and it tends to be even harder during g-spot stimulation as opposed to clitoral stimulation. This is because the sensations of the g-spot can feel like you have to urinate. You will not pee. And if you end up releasing a bunch of fluid, it is ejaculation, NOT pee...

The Sexual Response Cycle

Most of us know how things go when getting intimate. But did you know there's actually a scientific order to what's going on in our bodies, enough so that we can classify each stage of it? Masters & Johnson (William and Virginia) came up with the first three stages of excitement, plateau and orgasm. According to wikipedia , Masters hired Johnson to help him in a study about human sexuality (he later left his wife for Johnson, but it didn't last. They divorced in 1992). Helen Singer Kaplan added a fourth stage to their diagram--the resolution stage. This was big because sexual dysfunction is classified in the 4th edition of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) based on this diagram--it is a dysfunction if it interrupts any stage. What are the stages? Step 1: Excitement This is when you start to get horny (I hate that word, just putting it out there). The 'side effects' are quite obvious. For women, the vaginal lips swell and become slightly engorged...

Walt Disney's Forgotten Film: The Story of Menstruation

In 1946, Disney (with help from Kimberley-Clark by Kotex) put out a short 10-minute film entitled, 'The Story of Menstruation.' It was a little explanation about what a period is, what to expect when you're on it, and overall how to be a healthy woman. Considering the fact that it was made 65 years ago, the information is all basically the same. And who knew that Kotex has been around that long?! At one part, the narrator says that we women can do practically everything we normally do when on our period, and it shows a clip of a cartoon girl dancing with a cartoon boy. They are twirling around and the narrator says, "Oh, now now, we said practically everything." I'm not sure what exactly she meant, but to me I thought she was referring to sexual activity. Any ideas of what she meant, if you think I was off base? To be clear, sexual activity and even intercourse itself is totally fine during your period, just be safe and clean. Orgasms have been shown to red...

FREE BIRTH CONTROL!!!

Today is a big day for women in these here United States!! On or after August 1st, 2012, health insurance plans will cover preventative services, which includes free birth control!!! Now, if you are covered under health insurance, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. Of course, do your research. But do your research and rejoice that this is a big step towards women's health!!!
