I've had my blog for about five years now, and many of you readers know that I am not the most consistent of posters. I can’t lie--I’m not easily motivated and I’m too easily discouraged. The current state of affairs in America definitely leaves something to be desired for nearly every type of person. I’ve always been a very laid-back, non-confrontational person and discovering how many people aren’t like that really hit me hard. It made me want to crawl into bed and never interact with humans again. My mother got pregnant with me shortly after turning 18--my father was only 16. Despite this, I was not given a clear explanation of what sex was or how I should deal with it. My father was extremely sexist. He would routinely joke with my younger brother about ‘titties’ and sleeping with sexy women while condemning any interest I had in boys. He did not believe that gay people should be allowed to be together and was adamant that they absolutely should not be allowed to adopt chil...

Guys, I've really dropped the ball. There have been so many things going on that make me think, "Wow! I should write a post about that!" And then I look into the topic more, and it upsets me and then I read reactions/comments from people and they make me angry, and then I get hopeless and I close my computer and snuggle my cats and complain about how I hate everyone. Someone doesn't need to be a politically minded person to realize there is a HUGE divide in the United States right now. I never expected to live in a society with so much hostility and hate. It truly makes me sad. I know internet posts definitely exacerbate my anxieties, and that people allow their worst sides to come out while they are typing away in the safety of their own home, but it still sucks to see. Hey all!! I've decided to do an update for you. I hope you all enjoyed my interview with Josh. It was super entertaining and informative for me. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is important because about 1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Besides lung cancer, breast cancer is the biggest cancer diagnosis and killer of women, though the numbers have gone down due to extensive research and advanced screenings. This is great news!! The pink campaign for breast cancer has definitely brought a TON of awareness and funding towards the disease. Like any charity or donation center, make sure you are doing your research before donating. Awareness and money is important in helping to cure women (and men!) afflicted with diseases and preventing them from getting sick in the first place. This is where I will mention that Planned Parenthood does offer screenings and mammograms for early detection, which is SO important. It's also important to remember to give yourself regular breast exams. Just check out your boobs from time to time to make sure they look and feel normal. Here...

Today is Pi Day, 3.14. And it's also National Condom Day! So, before you start eating pie off each other's bodies, make sure you have condoms!!! According to a fact sheet on HIV from the CDC (Center for Disease Control), 1.2 million people in the US have HIV and 1 in 5 aren't aware that they have it. So, you could be sleeping with someone who has it. This is only one reason to wrap it up!!! Syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, genital warts, HPV, crabs, trich, etc. are all STDs you can get from sexual contact with someone. Notice I said sexual contact. You CAN get an STD from oral and anal contact. Even a cold sore (herpes) in your mouth can give your partner herpes on their genitals. This is pretty rare, but the point is, it CAN happen. You don't only have to worry about disgusting, painful, itchy, discharge-y sores and infections. Pregnancy is also a factor.
